The economic collapse has knocked hard and fast against many of the underpinnings of the middle class: homeownership, education, healthcare, employment and retirement, and against the economy of northeast Ohio in general. But it also has escalated change in the way we approach our individual economies and the way we, as a region, approach the bigger economy.

This site is a service of WKSU public radio, the Akron Beacon Journal and The Center for Community Solutions. It's devoted to examining the challenge to personal and regional economies, and connecting you and others in the discussion of solutions.

The Center for Community Solutions

The Center for Community Solutions provides strategic leadership to improve targeted health, social, and economic conditions. Community Solutions is committed to assisting those who help make a difference in the lives of people throughout Northeast Ohio. We help other nonprofit organizations by doing the research and policy analysis work that service providers often don't have the time, expertise, or resources to do. We provide decision support, training, and tools policymakers, community leaders, and organizations need to address significant problems faced by people in our region every day. We believe (1) that Northeast Ohio is a great place to live, learn, work, and thrive; (2) that people our region's greatest asset and human capital development is our region's best investment; (3) that recommendations, decisions, and actions must be based on sound data, with a non-partisan orientation; and (4) that "measured" risks, creativity, and strategic community partnerships are crucial to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of our community. As we near our 100th year of service, Community Solutions strives to be the premier statewide resource for accurate, up-to-date information, analysis that cuts through the clutter, and practical recommendations and tools that can be used to improve health, social, and economic conditions.
