The economic collapse has knocked hard and fast against many of the underpinnings of the middle class: homeownership, education, healthcare, employment and retirement, and against the economy of northeast Ohio in general. But it also has escalated change in the way we approach our individual economies and the way we, as a region, approach the bigger economy. This site is a service of WKSU public radio, the Akron Beacon Journal and The Center for Community Solutions. It's devoted to examining the challenge to personal and regional economies, and connecting you and others in the discussion of solutions. Sponsors:

The Cleveland school board votes tomorrow on the overhaul of the struggling district. The plan includes revamping how students are taught, installing smaller, specialized high schools, and closing or moving 18 under-performing and under-enrolled schools. One of the high schools slated to close is East High. People in that community are fighting to keep it open, but they are also making plans for its closure.
